Reasons to apply Even if your child is currently receiving free school meals because they are in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, you should still apply for benefits-related FSM if you think you may be eligible. Doing so means that your child’s school will be given extra funding for six years, which can help to fund valuable teaching and learning support for your school. Applying for benefits-related FSM also means you will be eligible to receive funding for the holiday periods from the Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme.
