Building the Kingdom Statement
Computer science opens up for the learners the possibility of being key influencers and transformational leaders at a local, national and global level. The development of computational thinking and operational skills calls for the formation of learners who prioritise the importance of justice, equality, truth and the common good of all people at a global level.
Our approach to Computing encourages inquisitive learners to respect and take responsibility for the world in which they live. Through all of the values and virtues children will be encouraged to make right choices. Children will learn how computing can improve the world we live in and be used for the Common Good.
At St Patrick’s we aim to prepare our learners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever-changingdigital world. We recognise that our pupils live both socially and vocationally, will increasingly take place within a digital medium.
Our Computing curriculum therefore focuses on a progression of skills in digital literacy, computer science, information technology and online safety to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding, technology. These strands are revisited repeatedly through a range of themes during children’s time in school to ensure the learning is embedded and skills are successfully developed. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.
Our curriculum also places emphasis on teaching ‘Online Safety’ in line with current guidance. Our intention is that Computing also supports children’s creativity and cross curricular learning to engage children and enrich their experiences in school and as such, children will use all aspects of ICT to support their learning across the whole range ofsubjects.
